A hiker is expected to recover after a 75-foot fall at Crowders Mountain on Wednesday evening, according to officials. The hiker became stuck on a ledge on the backside of the Pinnacle Trail, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.
Numerous crews from the Kings Mountain Fire Department, Gaston Emergency Medical Services, and NC State Park Rangers, responded to the scene. The teams hiked in and were able to lower the hiker approximately 150 feet to the bottom of the mountain.
Using over 1,200 feet of rope, the rescue crews created a braking system to safely transport the hiker to an ambulance.
The patient was then taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The exact cause of the fall remains under investigation, and the hiker’s identity has not been released.
