Republican Jefferson Griffin conceded to Democratic Justice Allison Riggs on Wednesday, ending a legal battle over thousands of challenged ballots in the North Carolina Supreme Court race.
Griffin’s concession followed U.S. District Judge Richard Myers’ ruling upholding the ballots and ordering certification of Riggs’ 734-vote victory out of over 5.5 million cast.
Griffin, whose term on the Court of Appeals ends in 2028, said he would not appeal in a public statement.

Myers found that removing ballots, initially challenged in six Democratic-leaning counties, would violate voters’ constitutional rights.
Riggs’ win secures an eight-year term and boosts Democrats’ chances of regaining the state Supreme Court majority.
