The Fort Mill Police Department has earned the Gold Award in the 2025 South Carolina Law Enforcement Challenge, the highest honor given to agencies working to reduce crashes and improve roadway safety statewide.

The award recognizes Fort Mill’s consistent traffic enforcement, stepped-up DUI patrols, and strong community education efforts throughout the year. State officials said these efforts contributed to a measurable decline in traffic fatalities across South Carolina.

To qualify for Gold status, Fort Mill officers completed every major requirement, including monthly proactive enforcement, participation in statewide campaigns like Sober or Slammer! and Buckle Up South Carolina, and on-time submission of all mandated reports. The department also met the attendance threshold for Law Enforcement Network meetings, which track statewide traffic-safety progress.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety oversees the program, and Gold-level agencies become eligible for incentives such as fully equipped patrol vehicles and radar devices.
