Former Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera is about to follow in the footsteps of Bill Belichick and go back to college (specifically his alma mater, the University of California).

Rivera announced Wednesday on Twitter that he would follow Belichick’s lead in transitioning to the college level.

“Coach Belichick has made going back to school, cool. Stay tuned I am coming home.

Rivera, 63, is a Cal Athletics Hall of Fame inductee and had 337 tackles as a linebacker. In 1983, he earned All-American honors and set a school record with 26.5 tackles for loss, including 13 sacks.

California head coach Justin Wilcox, entering his ninth season, holds a 42-50 career record. Rivera will likely take on an administrative role at the school, focusing on program oversight, coaching staff support, and enhancing the student-athlete experience, according to ESPN.
