The Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau was honored by the North Carolina Travel Industry Association (NCTIA) during this year’s Tourism Achievement Awards, earning Gold in the Special Events Marketing and Social Media Marketing categories.

“These awards are a testament to the power of teamwork,” said Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO Donna Carpenter. “We are grateful for everyone who played a role in bringing these initiatives to fruition and are proud to see them honored among the state’s best.”

The Special Event Marketing award recognizes how an organization created, organized, or supported a special event that brought visitors to the community. The Cabarrus County CVB took home the honor for their work to support not a single event, but rather a venue—the Jay M. Robinson MONDO Track & Field Facility in Concord — that came to fruition through a unique partnership and now hosts numerous events which generate significant economic impact for the area.

The Social Media Marketing award recognizes outstanding achievement in the use of social media to promote the destination and was awarded to the CCCVB for their Cabarrus Burger Madness 2025 social media influencer program. The program’s authentic storytelling showcased restaurants through real, enthusiastic experiences from trusted voices, turning the annual dining event into a shareable celebration and demonstrating the power of local flavor, collaboration and creativity in driving tourism.

Recipients were honored on Thursday, November 6 at NCTIA’s annual awards banquet during the NC Tourism Leadership Conference in Wilmington. The purpose of the Tourism Achievement Awards is to honor and showcase innovation, best practices, creativity and noteworthy accomplishments from NCTIA members.
