CMPD Fatally Shoots Gunman After Deadly Northwest Charlotte Rampage

279

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police shot and killed a man Thursday afternoon following a violent series of crimes that began with a deadly shooting and ended in a high-speed chase and shootout.

The incident began around 4 p.m. when officers responded to reports of gunfire on North Hoskins Road near Brookshire Boulevard. Two people were found critically wounded, and both were rushed to the hospital. One later died, while the other remained in critical condition. Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.

Shortly after, officers were called to a nearby home invasion and kidnapping. The suspect forced a woman into a vehicle and fled. During the pursuit, he fired at police, striking several patrol cars. The chase ended when he crashed at Freedom Drive and Morehead Street, then fled on foot while continuing to shoot at officers. Police returned fire, killing him at the scene.

The kidnapped woman escaped after the crash and was found safe. No officers were injured, though four were taken to a hospital for evaluation and support.

Police said the suspect was responsible for both crime scenes. The motive remains unclear, and investigators say there is no indication he knew the original victims.

The State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the officer-involved shooting, while CMPD continues to investigate the homicide. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Moore at 704-432-8477 or contact Charlotte Crime Stoppers anonymously.
