A 45-year-old woman was shot and killed Monday morning near SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, marking yet another deadly incident in one of the city’s busiest commercial areas.
Police identified the victim Tuesday as Dwanneich Hammonds, confirming that her family had been notified.
According to a press release from CMPD, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 6:57 am on the 4400 block of Barclay Downs. They found Hammonds suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
No arrests have been made, and detectives have not released a motive. CMPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating, with help from Crime Scene Search and Victim Services.
