Siemens Energy just announced a major $421 million expansion across North Carolina that will create 500 new jobs statewide.

The expansion plans include a $150 million upgrade and expansion at the company’s Charlotte facility off Westinghouse Boulevard. This next phase will grow large power transformer manufacturing and boost service capacity as demand for grid equipment rises.

In Charlotte, Siemens Energy will also expand generator production and restart gas turbine manufacturing after a six-year pause. The company has operated in North Carolina since 1969.

“As one of Mecklenburg County’s largest employers, Siemens Energy plays a critical role in strengthening our local economy,” said Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chair Mark Jerrell in a press release. “The company’s decision to expand its operations here reflects confidence in our skilled workforce and the long-term opportunities Mecklenburg County offers new and existing industries.”

Beyond Mecklenburg County, the investment includes Siemens Energy sites in Rural Hall and Raleigh, although the company did not break out job totals by location.

The North Carolina expansion is part of a broader $1 billion U.S. manufacturing push, aimed at strengthening the domestic energy supply chain. Siemens Energy is also expanding operations in Mississippi, Alabama, New York, Texas, and Florida.

For the Charlotte region, the move reinforces its growing role in advanced energy manufacturing while adding long-term, high-skilled jobs tied to national power infrastructure needs.
