Charlotte has just officially lost the bid for the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament, and by consequence, Beemok Capital will not be building the $300 million tennis complex in Charlotte’s River District.
The tournament will remain at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, near Cincinnati, for an additional 25 years.
“The leaders in Charlotte and the state have been incredible partners as we’ve evaluated our options. This was a very difficult decision, and we are deeply appreciative of the time, energy and resources that were invested alongside us,” Beemok Capital founder Benjamin Navarro said in a press release. “We have strong ties to the area and will look for ways to invest in the community and local tennis development in the future.”

The river district complex that would have hosted the Western & Southern Open if it moved to Charlotte would have included a 50-acre stadium and multi-court campus. It would have also hosted over 50 additional tournaments, ranging from collegiate to junior and lower levels, along with an array of concerts, festivals, and corporate events.
