A new shot currently being shot around the Charlotte region was just approved for $15 million in state film grant funding.

The Hunting Wives, based on May Cobb’s bestselling novel, became a breakout Netflix success earlier this year. Although set in a fictional East Texas town, much of the series is now being filmed in Charlotte, where local neighborhoods, lakefront estates, and rural backdrops have helped producers recreate the show’s Southern setting.

Two other productions also secured state support: RJ Decker, a new series filming in New Hanover County with an award of up to $11.6 million, and Widow, an independent thriller that recently wrapped filming in Davidson, Forsyth, Stokes, and Yadkin counties with up to $1.8 million in grant eligibility. Together, the three projects are expected to spend more than $113 million statewide.

“We are excited to have these new productions in North Carolina creating 4,900 jobs for our state’s crew and film-friendly businesses,” said Governor Josh Stein in a press release“North Carolina remains a top state for film, and these grants enable us to continue our strong tradition of TV and film production excellence.”

North Carolina’s Film and Entertainment Grant reimburses productions only after filming is complete and spending is audited, with no upfront payouts. State leaders say the program continues to draw high-impact projects that fuel local economies and strengthen the state’s film workforce.
