Charlotte is now experiencing its coldest January since 2018, and it’s longest freezing streak in nearly 25 years, according to the National Weather Service.
Charlotte’s freezing streak, expected to end around noon Thursday, will tie the longest since 2000.
The current record stands at 138 hours, set in January 1982 when temperatures remained below freezing from January 9 at 8 p.m. until January 15 at 2 p.m.
The good news is that by next week, temps in Charlotte will return back above 60 degrees.
