Charlotte Among The Best Cities for Career Flexibility

According to a new study which ranks the country’s 20 best cities for career flexibility, Charlotte ranks among the top.

The Real Estate analyst firm Commercial Cafe compiled the study using indicators in the following categories: flexibility opportunities, commuting & remote readiness, and career growth & economics.

Charlotte placed #10 overall for flexible workers with a total of 43.5 points. 

  • 30.9% of Charlotte’s employees work remotely, the city placing 3rd in the regional top 10 for this metric.
  • Employees who commute to work do so in about 24.1 minutes each way, representing the 3rd-shortest travel time to work among our regional top 10.
  • Charlotte placed 3rd for its ratio of libraries per 100,000 residents among the top 10 Southern cities for flexible workers.
  • The city placed 3rd for its cost of living index of 96.7 among the regional top 10.
  • Charlotte has roughly 56% high speed internet coverage, the city placing 4th among the top 10 Southern cities for career flexibility.
  • The city ranked 4th among the regional top 10 for its job support services ratio of 2 per 100,000 residents.
  • Charlotte claimed the 4th-lowest unemployment rate among the top 10 regional entries with 3.3%.
