Canadian company AVL Manufacturing has just announced plans to open its first U.S. production facility in Charlotte, bringing more than 325 new manufacturing jobs to the region.

AVL USA Inc. will invest $56 million to build a facility in Mecklenburg County focused on producing metal enclosures for industrial power generators. The products will serve sectors such as data centers, automotive, construction, and emergency management.

“After considering many markets, we are thrilled that AVL’s entrance into the U.S. market is in Charlotte, a vibrant, tech-forward city perfect for us to lay down roots,” said AVL President Vince Dicristofaro in a press release. “We didn’t just choose a location; we chose a community. Charlotte’s spirit of collaboration and its talented workforce made it the clear choice for our American-based home. We are excited to tap into this talent pool as we establish our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and create meaningful careers for the residents of this city and deliver unparalleled products to our customers.”

Of the new positions, 122 jobs are tied to a $100,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund. Those roles will offer an average salary of $90,088 — notably higher than Charlotte’s average salary of $86,830. The OneNC grant requires a matching contribution from local government and depends on AVL meeting job creation and investment goals.

North Carolina Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders said the project reflects the state’s growing advanced manufacturing sector and strong workforce. Partners in the recruitment effort include the N.C. Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, Mecklenburg County, and the City of Charlotte.
