A group of Buddhist monks walking across the United States will soon arrive in the Charlotte region as part of a walk-for-peace pilgrimage.

The monks began their journey in Fort Worth, Texas, on Oct. 26, traveling on foot toward Washington, D.C. Since then, the group of about two dozen monks has crossed several states and will soon cross over from Georgia into South Carolina early next week.

You can track them live on the following map:

Here is the entire map of their planned route:

Their walk highlights Buddhism’s long tradition of nonviolence and activism for peace. The group is traveling through 10 states before completing the journey in the nation’s capital.

The group has built a large online following, with more than 400,000 followers on Facebook. Many supporters also follow their dog, Aloka, who walks with the monks.

Aloka is named after a Sanskrit word meaning enlightenment and has become a symbol of the trek, gaining its own hashtag, #AlokathePeaceDog.
