North Carolina voters showed up bigtime on the first day of in-person early voting for the 2024 General Election, breaking numerous turnout records.
On Thursday, a total of 353,166 ballots were accepted at early voting sites across the state, surpassing the previous record of 348,559 from 2020.
“Yesterday’s turnout is a clear sign that voters are energized about this election, that they trust the elections process, and that a hurricane will not stop North Carolinians from exercising their right to vote,” said SBE Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell in a press release. “Let’s keep it rolling, North Carolina.”
In-person early voting runs through November 2 at 419 locations statewide. The State Board of Elections is reminding voters to check early voting locations in their county, review candidate information using the Voter Search tool, and bring a valid photo ID to vote. Voters without an ID can meet the requirement by filling out a form or showing an ID at their county board of elections office by November 14.
Voters affected by Hurricane Helene can find information on absentee ballots and special provisions at ncsbe.gov/Helene.
