Yesterday afternoon traffic was halted on i85 after a tractor trailer full of pig guts overturned in the middle of the highway.
The Gaston Gazette reported that the truck dumped its load at 3:21 p.m. yesterday near the Belmont-Mount Holly Road exit on i85.
The accident created “a powerful, unique smell that could be described as pork-scented garbage,” reporter Adam Lawson wrote.

The traffic jam ended up lasting several hours and the cars that were closer to the accident got to enjoy a wonder smelling afternoon. At around 6:45 p.m. vehicles in the westbound lanes were backed up all the way to the Charlotte-Douglas airport.
All lanes are now clear and the highway has been cleaned up and hosed down.
