North Carolina’s 9th District Congressman Robert Pittenger is co-sponsoring a new bill called ‘Pay Our Protectors, Not Our Politicians Act’, which would essentially withhold pay from congressmen and restore pay to military personnel during the government shutdown.
“There are over 100,000 active duty military based in North Carolina,” Pittenger said in a statement. “Right now, they are defending our freedom while not knowing when they’ll next get paid. For Members of Congress to still receive pay during a government shutdown is unconscionable.”
The Congressman has also released a video saying his office will remain open even during this government shutdown;
Senator Schumer may want a shutdown, but I’ve decided not to participate. My focus remains on serving you, my constituents. My offices in Washington, Charlotte, Monroe, and Fayetteville will be open on a regular schedule come Monday morning. #SchumerShutdown pic.twitter.com/VjMQ9Z9Mmf
