rusty rudderMany people were crushed by the news of the Rusty Rudder closing it’s doors back in September, especially since it was one of the only restaurants in the region to provide boat slips for customers arriving by water.

A few months ago, the Kindred Family, owners of the wildly popular Kindred Restaurant in Davidson, decided to make the old dockside eatery even better.

Their new restaurant concept has now landed on Eater.com’s list of the “16 Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of 2017.”

The website chose 16 of the most exciting new restaurant concepts to open this year – Kindred’s “Hello, Sailor” was the only one to be named in the southeast.

According to Eater.com, “the Kindreds first looked at adding a restaurant in Charlotte but opted instead for the 4,000-square-foot lakefront space. The property also includes a large patio and an additional outdoor bar that will serve as a seasonal tiki bar.”

“We want people to be able to park their boat and grab a quick meal or come with friends and family and linger and share. So the menu will reflect that balance,” Joe Kindred told Eater, which described Hello, Sailor’s desired vibe as a “North Carolina fish camp meets mid-century Palm Springs.”

Lake Norman’s new Hello, Sailor is now slated to open later this summer.
