Charlotte’s Second Oldest Movie Theater is About To Shut Down

The second oldest movie theater in Charlotte is about to close its doors.

The Regal Cinemas Park Terrace will be closing its doors for good next weekend – its last day of operation will be Sunday, December 17th, according to a manager.

The historic cinema first opened in 1964 as the Park Terrace Theater (25 years after Charlotte’s first cinema opened – Dilworth Theater). Consolidated Theatres spent $2 million on renovating the theater in 1996, doubling its number of screens from 3 to 6. Regal then bought the theater from Consolidated in 2008.

The theater is one of South Charlotte’s most recognizable landmark, and the cornerstone of the Park Road Shopping Center…it will certainly be missed…

What’s your favorite memory from Park Terrace?
