Charlotte Symphony Announces 2017 Summer Pops Schedule and Special Performances

movie in southparkDust off those picnic baskets and break out the lawn chairs—the Charlotte Symphony’s Summer Pops is just around the corner!

This year’s Summer Pops features a 4-concert series plus the Celebrate America! special event. Audiences will enjoy Hollywood hits and music from Star Wars to Broadway favorites, a Jazz collaboration and patriotic favorites with fireworks.

Held at Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall each Sunday in June and on Saturday, July 1 in celebration of Independence Day, these outdoor musical experiences are some of the most highly anticipated events of the season.

Hooray for Hollywood

Sunday, June 4, 8:15 p.m.

Features themes from Hollywood blockbusters including West Side Story, The Pink Panther, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, and more!

Jazz at the Park

with Jazz Arts Initiative

Sunday, June 11, 8:15 p.m.

Keitaro Harada, conductor

The Charlotte Symphony is joined by musicians of the Jazz Arts Initiative to bring you a night of standards. Hear all the favorites including “In the Mood,” “Stardust,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” plus interludes featuring selections for Jazz combo.

Star Wars The Music

Experience an electrifying journey to a galaxy far, far away as your Charlotte Symphony celebrates the 40th anniversary of Star Wars! Relive the excitement of John Williams’s majestic scores with selections spanning all seven films.

Best of Broadway

Sunday, June 25, 8:15 p.m.

A night of Broadway’s best loved show tunes. Hear selections from The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Les Miserables, Grease!, Wicked, and Phantom of the Opera.

Special Event

Celebrate America!  With Fireworks!

Saturday, July 1, 8:15 p.m.

Join your Charlotte Symphony for a rousing salute to America with a night of patriotic favorites including Sousa Marches, “God Bless America,” the Armed Forces medley—all topped off by a spectacular fireworks finale.

Summer Pops events are held at Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall, 4400 Sharon Road.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Prelude performances begin 7 p.m. Parking is free.
