Carolina Panthers Defensive End Charles Johnson Suspended For Using Drugs

The Panthers’ star Defensive End has just been suspended for using drugs.

#95 Charles Johnson will not be able to play in the next 4 games due to his violation of the NFL policy on using performance-enhancing drugs. After the drugs were detected in his bloodstream, he was immediately suspended without pay, according to officials.

He’ll be eligible to return on Christmas Day after the Panthers’ December 24 game against the Tampa Bay Buccs.

Johnson just released the following statement, according to the Panthers.

“I accept full responsibility. I have been recovering from back surgery, dealing with the daily grind of football and mistakenly thought this could help. It was an error in judgement on my part. We have a special group here I wanted to be a part of and felt an obligation to do my part by getting back as soon as possible. I have always prided myself on being a person who does things the right way through hard work, dedication and sacrifice. I want to apologize to my team, Mr. Richardson and Panthers fans for this mistake. Regretfully I have disappointed people, but I promise to come back ready to redeem myself when this suspension is over.”

In today’s game against the Saints, Wide receiver Damiere Byrd will replace Johnson spot on the 53-man roster.

Today’s game will be aired from New Orleans on Fox this afternoon at 1pm.
