Build A Bear Shuts Down Sale After Chaos At Charlotte-Area Malls

Young families caused havoc today at Charlotte-area malls after Build A Bear advertised a one-day-only special.

The toy shop announced that all customers on Thursday, 7/12 would only have to pay their child’s age for the desirable custom stuffed animals (meaning 2-year-olds could get a bear for $2 and 4-year-olds could get a bear for $4).

The custom plush toys are normally priced between $10-$25.

This morning the line at Concord Mills was so long, that it snaked outside the building, down the sidewalk, then back in another entrance, back outside, and down another sidewalk around the building;

At about 11 a.m. Concord Mills sent out a statement about the record lines;

“Based on unprecedented response to the Pay Your Age Day, we have longer than expected lines & large crowds. Local authorities are requiring us to limit the lines due to safety concerns. Build A Bear is working to address the situation, & will be reaching out to our guests soon.”

Build-A-Bear posted an alert on its website around 11:30 a.m. that said all stores have now shut down all lines for their sale.
