Amazon Marking Down Dozens of Whole Foods Items On Monday After $13.7 Billion Merger

whole-foods-charlotteAmazon.com’s $13.7 billion takeover of Whole Foods will finalize on Monday, at which point the company will begin making several welcomed changes, according to a press release.

“Whole Foods Market will offer lower prices starting Monday on a selection of best-selling grocery staples across its stores, with more to come,” the company said in a statement.

The specific items that are scheduled to be marked down starting Monday include; organic avocados, organic brown eggs, organic salmon, almond butter, organic apples and organic rotisserie chicken. Amazon noted that they will continue to mark down more prices in the coming weeks and months, and that and that Amazon Prime members will get additional discounts at Whole Foods.

“Everybody should be able to eat Whole Foods Market quality — we will lower prices without compromising Whole Foods Market’s long-held commitment to the highest standards,” Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer, said in a statement.

There are currently 3 Whole Food Markets in the greater Charlotte region – all of which will feature the new pricing starting Monday;

This decision to buy the specialty big-box grocer is in step with Amazon’s recent decisions to expand their home delivery grocery service, AmazonFresh, and their online grocery store, Prime Pantry.
