The Humane Society recently  partnered up with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s department in a join investigation into a suspected puppy mill facility in Kannapolis.

Last Monday they raided 4048 Hilton Lake Road in Kannapolis and were able to successfully rescue 105 dogs, 20 cats and three goats, all of which were in surprisingly poor conditions.

The owner of the property, Patricia Yates was charged with at least one count of animal cruelty, with more charges pending. Patricia did willingly surrender the animals, which allowed the Humane Society to move them directly into veterinary care without having to deal with a drawn out legal process.

After each animal was checked over an deemed healthy enough for adoption, the Humane Society moved the dogs and cats to several different partner shelters and organizations across the Carolinas including:

  • Humane Society of Charlotte
  • Moore Humane Society
  • Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control
  • SPCA of Wake County
  • Pawfect Match Rescue
  • Rescue Animals Community Effort (RACE) Brunswick County
  • Cashiers Highlands Humane Society
  • Watauga Humane Society
  • Safe Haven for Cats
  • Chances Angel Rescue and Education (CARE)
  • Chihuahua Rescue and Transport

If you’re interested in adopting any of these precious animals, please contact your local shelter.
